Embracing Blessed Unrest: A Retreat for Contemplating Questions of Faith and Community
October 14th-16th, 2016
Friday dinner  – Sunday lunch
Location: Rolling Ridge Study Retreat near Harpers Ferry, WV

“Our life is a faint tracing on the surface of mystery, like the idle, curved tunnels of leaf miners on the
face of a leaf. We must somehow take a wider view, look at the whole landscape, really see it, and
describe what’s going on here. Then we can at least wail the right question into the swaddling band
of darkness or, if it comes to that, choir the proper praise.”  ~ from PILGRIM AT TINKERS CREEK by Annie Dillard

When the faith tradition you grew up with, the one embedded deep within the fabric of your psyche, no longer holds the same meaning, what do you do? When exploring alternatives doesn’t feel quite like home, what do you do?

If nurturing a deeper spiritual life, a wisdom way that seeks to go beyond theologies, resonates with you – come. If you can no longer adhere to old canons but have grown weary of being a skeptic– come. If you want to embrace openness to diverse spiritual paths but feel lonely in your search for a community of nonjudgmental companions and teachers – come. If you long for something but can no longer name it- come.

This retreat is an opportunity to create a sacred space, a vessel to hold our “blessed unrest,” where we can weave together conversations to feed our hungry hearts. It is a chance to practice affirming, honoring and learning from each other. If you long for a time of deep listening, contemplation, and connection– come.IMG_20160827_170309

We will cradle our longings, contemplations, and conversations within the beautiful woods of Rolling Ridge, interspersed with moments of music, dance, poetry and other meditative arts to nurture our souls.

Facilitators Linda DeGraf, Carolyn Brock, & Charlotte Baker-Shenk all have roots in Christian faith traditions. In different ways, we have each explored how to maintain connections to community while honestly following our own questions and pursuing the spiritual practices and paths that feed our longings. Persons from all faith traditions are warmly welcome.
